The University of the Philippines Baguio Visitation

The delegation from the University of the Philippines Baguio (UP Baguio), led by the Chancellor Ph.D. Corazon L. Abansi visited National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) on January 10 to 13, 2024. The members of the delegation include the Vice Chancellor, Santos Jose Dacanay III; Dean Leah Abayao, College of Social Sciences; Dean Jimmy Fong, College of Arts and Communication; and Dean Dymphna Javier, College of Science.

UP Baguio and NDHU had signed the MOU in 2017. On January 11, Vice President Chin-Peng Chu of NDHU hosted the delegation at the meeting room of the Office of International Affairs and had a meeting to exchange opinions on the MOU conduct between the universities. In this meeting, the attendees discussed the implementation of the MOU and identified activities and/ or programs where UP Baguio and NDHU can collaborate or partner, such as study trips for students, research visits for faculty, co-organizing seminars or roundtable discussions, exchange programs, etc. In the afternoon, the delegation visited the College of Environmental Studies and Oceanography, the College of Indigenous Studies to learn more about the characteristics of the two colleges.

The next day, the UP Baguio delegation had a meeting with the faculties and students of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences from the Ph.D. Program in APRS, Department of Economics, Department of English, Department of Law & Indigenous Law Program, Department of Public Administration, and Department of Sociology. They gave a briefing to each other and then talked about the trend of international talent cultivation and demand and how the universities can cooperate to respond to it.

After the meeting, the delegation had a trip to Li-Yu Lake. Professor Yan-Shu Lin, Professor Hurng-Jyuhn Wang, and the student Jayson Troy Bajar (Filipino) of the Ph.D. program in APRS, NDHU companied with them.

   
   

They visited the Li-Yu Lake environmental education center to learn about the environmental education program regarding indigenous culture preservation and the sustainable development plan in the tourist area. The themes are also part of the mission features of UP Baguio.

Before the UP Baguio delegation left Taiwan, they got the chance to look at the campaign for the President Election on the pre-election eve in Taipei. It would be a special experience for their visit to Taiwan.
